A Brief Introduction to the Inscription Database
This online database is a beacon of hope for all those who have been studying and interested in the history and archaeology of Sri Lanka for a long time.
The archeology.lk team came up with the idea in 2009 to put together a database of Sri Lankan inscriptions on the Internet. However, in the same year, the Royal Asiatic Society launched a similar project on inscriptions in Sri Lanka, therefore, we did not continue our project.
After a few years, the online database of inscriptions of the Royal Asiatic Society was not available on the internet. To fill the vacuum created by it the Institute of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, which is an academic arm of archaeology.lk, launched this online inscriptions database considering it as a matter of urgency.

We would like to thank the entire staff of the Department of Archaeology, including Prof. Senarath Dissanayake, the Director-General of the Department of Archaeology, for their permission to obtain the information required to compile this database.
We also pay tribute to all those who do not know us, including Prof. Senarat Paranavitana, who has been collecting and documenting information on the inscriptions in the midst of various struggles from time immemorial, and for the great contribution, they have made to future generations.

About inscriptions of Sri Lanjka
Prof. Senarat Paranavitana's service will always be remembered as an unforgettable character in the Inscriptional studies in Sri Lanka. Reading and transcribing the original Brahmi inscriptions of Sri Lanka and transcribing 648 graffiti on the Sigiriya mirror wall are some of his most significant works for the subject.
